UAE’s Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has organized field tours to the ‘Self-Service Kiosks’ in Dubai International Airport, which are part of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Refund Scheme for Tourists.

The tour intends to ensure the readiness of the system, and it is in accordance with the FTA’s strategy of providing services that are tailored to the needs of taxpayers, as well as its commitment to implementing Cabinet Decision No. (41) of 2018 on the Tax Refunds for Tourists Scheme.

His Excellency Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director-General of FTA, noted that the VAT Refund Scheme for Tourists intends to encourage tourism in the UAE, which is one of the key sectors that contribute significantly to the local economy.

“The services provide greater ease and speed in processing VAT refund requests for tourists on purchases they made during their stay in the UAE. The streamlined procedure identifies taxes eligible for refunds, verifies that the purchased items are with the tourist, and then facilitates tax recovery. The Federal Tax Authority reaffirms its ongoing commitment to providing VAT refund services for tourists that adhere to the highest standards and international best practices. We are devoted to ensuring transparency, accuracy, and speed of procedures and mechanisms, which, in turn, will cement and advance the UAE’s standing as a major destination on the global tourism map.”

Further, the tour showcased the system’s accomplishments while also emphasizing its preparation for future stages. The system includes ‘Self-Service Kiosks’ that provide unique advantages and allow tourists to recover the tax digitally.

According to the statement, “The kiosks were placed at all exit ports included in the VAT Refund Scheme for Tourists, where visitors can submit the tax invoices on their purchases, along with their passport and credit card to recover VAT.”

Through its partnership with the international payment service provider Planet, the Federal Tax Authority offers ‘Self-Service Kiosks’ at air, land, and seaports, in addition to many commercial centers and hotels that are included in the VAT Refund Scheme for Tourists’ electronic system. The FTA is dedicated to providing facilities that enhance the customer experience and expand tourist possibilities.
