Sharjah Maritime Academy (SMA) has launched Majid, an agentic AI-powered voice and chat assistant to support student admissions and registration, becoming one of the first UAE higher education institutions to adopt Agentic AI.
The AI assistant is available 24 hours a day and provides prospective students and parents with information and guidance throughout the admissions process.
It is designed to understand user queries, provide contextual responses, assist with admission-related decisions, and connect users with admissions advisors when required.
The launch is part of the academy’s digital transformation strategy and its efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into student services and institutional operations.
Through Majid, users can explore academic programs, learn about maritime career pathways, review admission requirements, understand application procedures, access the online application portal, and receive responses to admission and registration inquiries.
Dr. Hashim Abdullah bin Sarhan Al Zaabi Chancellor – SMA
“The launch of Majid marks an important step in our digital transformation strategy and positions the Academy among the early adopters of Agentic AI in the UAE’s higher education sector. It creates a seamless, accessible, and student-centered admissions experience where technology enhances human interaction, empowers informed decisions, and supports every learner from their very first engagement with the academy.”
Mohammad Affan Habib, Director of Information Technology at Sharjah Maritime Academy, added that, “Majid is far more than a virtual assistant—it represents the next generation of intelligent student services powered by Agentic AI. By combining conversational intelligence, voice interaction, contextual reasoning, and intelligent automation, we are delivering a smarter, faster, and more personalized admissions experience.”
According to the academy, the implementation of Majid forms part of its broader artificial intelligence strategy, which focuses on integrating AI across academic services, student engagement, and decision support while maintaining responsible AI governance.
SMA highlighted that it plans to introduce further AI-powered solutions to support personalized learning, academic services, and operational efficiency as part of its ongoing digital transformation initiatives.
