The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) and the Global Institute for Energy, Minerals and Society (GIEMS) of Canada.

The agreement, signed during the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, aims to strengthen collaboration in nuclear research, development, and capacity building between the two organizations.

The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) is Canada’s second-largest research and technology organization, specializing in supporting innovation and industrial commercialization for clients worldwide. Meanwhile, the Global Institute for Energy, Minerals and Society (GIEMS) is a Canadian-based research institute dedicated to advancing the understanding of the global energy and minerals sectors.

The ENEC MoU outlines a comprehensive framework for collaboration on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and advanced reactor systems.

The partnership aims to drive innovation in nuclear energy by focusing on enhancing operational performance, improving plant efficiency, and ensuring greater reliability.

According to the reports, “Additionally, the agreement will support the development of cutting-edge technologies to optimize the overall performance of nuclear power plants.”

Further, it also explores the practical use of digital tools, including artificial intelligence and robotics, to support safe and responsible civil nuclear operations.

The ENEC MoU with SRC and GIEMS fosters knowledge exchange and workforce development, aiming to build long-term capabilities within the nuclear sector. It also seeks to extend the value of the UAE’s proven expertise gained from the successful delivery and operation of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

Through this international collaboration, the UAE’s experience will contribute to advancing global nuclear energy practices and strengthening industry standards, as per the statement.
