Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Bahrain, and Michael Damianos, Minister of Energy and Commerce, Cyprus, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for mutual maritime and air freight services.

The MoU was signed in the presence of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, and as part of His Excellency’s official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Minister Fakhro underlined the importance of continuing to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the Kingdom and Cyprus, especially in global transit, shipping, and logistics services. He noted both sides’ commitment to enhance cooperation and coordination to serve mutual interests and support sustainable economic development.

The Industry Minister highlighted that granting Cyprus partner status for maritime and air freight services allows Cyprus-based companies to apply for official accreditation as authorized operators of this service in Bahrain. He noted that they will benefit from a range of advantages and facilities that improve operational efficiency, speed up cargo movement, and reduce costs.

The Minister added that this step reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to expanding its international partnerships with other countries, reinforcing Bahrain’s position as a leading regional and global hub for logistics and multimodal transport.

Bahrain launched the Bahrain Global Sea-Air Hub in 2021 to enhance the connection between Khalifa bin Salman Port and Bahrain International Airport. The center offers integrated logistics solutions that move goods faster and at a lower cost than traditional shipping methods, supporting Bahrain’s role as a strategic hub for international trade.
