The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its commitment to global market stability, sustainable development, and steady energy supplies, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in supporting global economic resilience.

The Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, conveyed this position while participating in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Special Meeting on ‘Safeguarding energy and supply flows: Supporting global development through international cooperation.’

Dr. Alwasil noted that stable and reliable energy flows remain fundamental to sustaining global economic growth and advancing development objectives worldwide.

Abdulaziz Alwasil highlighted the critical need to protect maritime routes and uphold freedom of navigation, particularly in strategic corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, which serve as vital arteries for international trade and energy transport.

Dr. Alwasil strongly condemned attacks targeting energy infrastructure and civilian facilities, warning that such actions threaten maritime transit, disrupt supply chains, and undermine regional and global stability. He stressed that ensuring the security of critical infrastructure is essential for maintaining confidence in global energy markets.

Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil drew attention to draft resolution 2817, submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, aimed at enhancing the protection of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He said that the initiative has received broad international support and represents a significant step toward reinforcing maritime security and regional stability.

Concluding his statement, Dr. Alwasil underscored the importance of ensuring reliable and affordable energy access, particularly for developing countries grappling with energy poverty. He called for an integrated international approach that fosters innovation, strengthens cooperation, and respects the diverse national circumstances and development priorities of individual states.

The session brought together global stakeholders to address pressing challenges in energy security and supply chain stability, reflecting a growing consensus on the need for coordinated multilateral action to support sustainable global development.
