Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry AKAZAWA Ryosei have held a virtual meeting to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding the long-standing strategic energy partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the depth of relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan and reviewed ways to enhance cooperation across the energy sector and related industries. The discussions focused on boosting collaboration in areas considered critical to global energy security and long-term market stability.
Japanese Minister AKAZAWA referred to a letter conveyed from Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, regarding the enhancement of cooperation between the two friendly nations in energy and associated fields.
The ministers stressed the importance of continued coordination and joint efforts to support the stability and security of global energy markets amid evolving international energy challenges. They also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in several strategic areas, including energy supply chains, energy infrastructure, strategic stockpiling, and investment initiatives.
As part of efforts to deepen engagement, both sides agreed to establish a joint task force that will begin work as soon as possible. The task force will discuss proposals submitted by the Saudi and Japanese sides and identify additional avenues for cooperation not only between the two countries but also across the broader Asian energy sector.
The meeting underscored the growing importance of Saudi-Japanese collaboration in ensuring reliable energy supplies and advancing regional and international energy cooperation.
The two ministers welcomed the continued engagement between Riyadh and Tokyo and expressed their shared aspiration to further strengthen and develop the strategic energy partnership between Saudi Arabia and Japan in the coming years.
