The Kingdom of Bahrain and the US have sealed a cooperation agreement in the field of peaceful nuclear energy during the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the US.
The cooperation agreement was signed by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State. It supports Bahrain’s vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 and global efforts to tackle climate change.
The signing ceremony was attended by Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States, and members of the accompanying delegation.
This move aims to strengthen the Bahrain-US cooperation in the field of nuclear energy as it play a key role in driving sustainable development and energy security.
Dr. Al Zayani stated that the agreement marks a key milestone in the strategic partnership between the two countries. It reflects the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the government led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Bahrain’s interest in benefiting from the extensive American expertise in this domain was also highlighted.
The Foreign Minister underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to meeting its civil nuclear energy needs in a manner consistent with national and shared security interests.
The cooperation agreement builds on the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA) signed between the two countries in 2023, which focused on deepening cooperation across various areas such as defense, security, emerging technologies, trade and investment.
Dr. Al Zayani also highlighted that both countries are strengthening their partnership by deploying advanced technologies to provide safe, secure and reliable civil nuclear energy, reinforcing energy security and supporting the use of low carbon energy sources.
Furthermore, Al Zayani stressed that the agreement highlights the advanced level of cooperation and the shared commitment to bolstering public-private partnerships between the two countries.
