The Kalba branch of the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) has organized a specialized training workshop titled ‘Creating Global Projects in a Multicultural Environment’ for engineers and technicians to strengthen their capabilities in managing internationally focused projects.
The workshop forms part of the SDPW’s efforts to enhance workforce readiness for projects involving multicultural teams by developing communication, collaboration and project management skills in diverse working environments.
Participants reviewed global project management models, with discussions focusing on aligning international standards with the specific requirements of the local environment in Kalba. The workshop highlighted approaches to improving project implementation, strengthening coordination, and enhancing cooperation among engineering teams.
The sessions also examined cultural challenges commonly encountered at project sites, including differences in communication styles, decision-making approaches, work practices, and professional backgrounds among multicultural teams.
Participants explored practical solutions and effective management strategies to promote teamwork, improve workplace harmony, strengthen cross-cultural communication, resolve potential conflicts, and maximize productivity while ensuring the successful execution of complex engineering projects.
Officials at the SDPW Kalba branch said that the workshop is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to develop the capabilities of its workforce and prepare them to lead high-quality projects in line with the Sharjah Government’s vision of adopting global best practices and fostering a flexible work environment that embraces cultural diversity in modern engineering projects.
The workshop concluded with presentations highlighting successful projects implemented by SDPW across the emirate, demonstrating the importance of effective communication in delivering quality outcomes and achieving the strategic objectives of public infrastructure projects.
