The Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE) and United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in research, training, and knowledge exchange aimed at advancing infectious disease elimination and supporting global public health priorities.

The agreement establishes a framework for joint initiatives focused on infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, and other pressing public health challenges of regional and international significance.

Through the partnership, both institutions aim to expand scientific research capabilities, enhance knowledge sharing, and strengthen the evidence base that informs health policy and practice.

Under the MoU, GLIDE and UAEU will collaborate on a range of capacity-building initiatives designed to develop local expertise and strengthen the participation of Emirati researchers in global health research.

Planned activities include joint training programs, lectures, workshops, internships, and fellowship opportunities for students and researchers.

“This MoU reflects our shared commitment to strengthening research and building local capacity. By combining academic excellence with applied research and policy engagement, we can accelerate the translation of scientific evidence into real-world impact.”

The partnership will also extend to collaborative efforts in securing competitive research funding. Both institutions plan to work together on joint applications for initiatives such as the Falcon Awards for Disease Elimination, as well as other regional and international research programs.

By combining GLIDE’s applied public health expertise with UAEU’s academic research capabilities, the partnership aims to support long-term advancements in disease prevention and public health outcomes at both regional and international levels.

The collaboration may also involve UAEU faculty and subject-matter experts participating in grant review processes to enhance scientific rigor and promote shared leadership.

In addition, the MoU outlines opportunities for faculty and student engagement through mentorship programs, joint supervision of research projects, academic exchanges, and participation in GLIDE-supported initiatives.

Knowledge exchange will also be strengthened through data sharing, joint scientific publications, co-authored policy briefs, and collaborative research forums.

Officials from both institutions said the agreement reinforces their commitment to strengthening the UAE’s position as a contributor to global health innovation, research, and disease elimination efforts.
