The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved over $277 million in development financing, aimed at generating employment, improving access to essential services, and fostering inclusive and sustainable growth in its member countries.

The funding approvals came during the 361st meeting of the IsDB Board of Executive Directors, chaired by IsDB President His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser. This new financing round underscores the Bank’s commitment to high-impact projects that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The funding covers key sectors including healthcare, education, and transportation, with projects designed to address pressing development challenges across the member countries.

In Mauritania, the Bank approved $28.36 million (EUR 26.18 million) for the ‘Expansion of the National Cardiology Center in Nouakchott Project’. The initiative aims to improve the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, a leading cause of premature mortality in the country. The project will significantly expand access to specialized cardiac care for thousands of patients.

In Côte d’Ivoire, IsDB allocated $216.47 million (EUR 200 million) to support the ‘Abidjan Sustainable and Integrated Urban Mobility Project’. The initiative seeks to modernize Abidjan’s public transport system, reduce urban traffic congestion, and improve commuter access to jobs, schools, and essential services. It also aims to promote environmentally friendly modes of transportation and enhance connectivity, particularly for underserved communities.

In The Gambia, a $32.20 million investment will support the establishment of the ‘School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (SMAHS)’ at the University of The Gambia. The project is expected to strengthen the country’s health system by addressing the acute shortage of medical professionals through the training of local doctors, nurses, and public health experts.

The approval of these strategic projects underscores IsDB’s enduring commitment to supporting transformative initiatives that deliver real development outcomes and socio-economic progress.

These investments demonstrate the Bank’s multidimensional and substantial contribution to the member countries’ development priorities towards building a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous future, forming part of IsDB’s broader efforts to foster impactful investments that deliver sustainable, measurable results and help communities thrive.
