Neo Space Group (NSG), Saudi Arabia’s commercial space services provider, and Saudia have activated NSG Skywaves® in-flight connectivity (IFC) aboard the airline’s inaugural Airbus A321XLR aircraft.
The activation marks the first line-fit deployment of NSG Skywaves® on a Saudia aircraft and expands the strategic partnership between the two companies. It also supports Saudi Arabia’s efforts to advance digital aviation services under the objectives of Vision 2030.
The connectivity platform is powered by NSG Skywaves® using the SES Open Orbits™ multi-orbit satellite network, combining geostationary (GEO) and medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite capabilities to provide in-flight connectivity across international flight routes.
Operational testing carried out by NSG’s engineering and operations teams recorded onboard connectivity speeds of up to 200 Mbps per aircraft, supporting internet-based services including video streaming, messaging, web browsing, and other passenger applications.
The deployment also includes the integration of the Airbus HBCplus line-fit solution. The implementation was completed through collaboration between NSG, Saudia, Airbus, SES, RAVE, and other industry partners to enable onboard connectivity from the aircraft’s entry into commercial service.
The project reflects the integration of satellite communications, onboard technologies, and digital platforms into a single in-flight connectivity solution.
The deployment also supports NSG’s strategy to expand its Skywaves® platform across regional and international airline fleets as demand for connected aircraft and digital passenger services continues to grow.
“Providing high-speed internet on our new A321XLR is a key element of the new Saudia experience. It enables our guests to stay connected, remain entertained, and enjoy a more engaging and seamless onboard journey. It also enables a new generation of connected onboard experiences, allowing guests to enjoy live television and real-time content, bringing the journey closer than ever to the world beyond the aircraft.”
Executive Vice President of Aviation at Neo Space Group Tarek El Mitwalli commented that, “Activating NSG Skywaves® on Saudia’s inaugural Airbus A321XLR demonstrates how sovereign space capabilities can be translated into real-world operational services that enhance airline performance and passenger connectivity alike. Together with Saudia and our broader ecosystem of partners, we are helping shape a more connected, resilient, and digitally enabled future for aviation.”
The activation forms part of NSG’s broader aviation connectivity strategy, which is focused on expanding the Skywaves® platform across regional and international airline fleets through next-generation in-flight connectivity solutions.
