Saudia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft, becoming the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate the extra-long-range narrow-body aircraft.
The delivery is part of the airline’s fleet expansion program and supports its strategy to improve operational efficiency, passenger experience, and sustainability performance.
The Airbus A321XLR offers a range of up to 8,700 kilometers and a flight duration of approximately nine hours. The aircraft enables Saudia to operate longer international routes with narrow-body efficiency.
The capability is expected to support network expansion by improving flexibility in capacity deployment and aligning aircraft utilization with market demand.
The delivery also introduces key elements of Saudia’s updated onboard product, ‘The New Saudia Experience,’ which focuses on comfort, connectivity, entertainment, and service consistency across the passenger journey.
The aircraft is configured with 24 Business Class suites designed for privacy and comfort, along with 120 Guest Class seats featuring upgraded seat design, 13-inch personal entertainment screens, and charging facilities.
In addition, the aircraft is equipped with high-speed inflight connectivity to support browsing, streaming, virtual meetings, and access to entertainment platforms.
Business Class passengers will also have access to an in-flight chef service offering customized dining options featuring Saudi and international cuisines.
Eng. Ibrahim Al-Omar Director General Saudia Group
“The delivery of the A321XLR reflects the momentum of Saudia’s ongoing transformation. As we continue to grow our fleet, our focus is not only on adding capacity, but on investing in aircraft, products, and capabilities that strengthen Saudia’s competitiveness and support the Kingdom’s aviation ambitions. The New Saudia Experience reflects this direction, bringing together enhanced onboard products, service quality, and operational efficiency to deliver a more distinctive journey for our guests.”
Saudia Group’s fleet expansion program also supports broader industrial and economic objectives within Saudi Arabia. Under its agreement with Airbus for 105 confirmed aircraft, the group aims to increase local content participation and create opportunities for Saudi suppliers within global aviation supply chains.
As part of this cooperation, Airbus is expected to work with suppliers in the Kingdom to support their qualification for international aviation supply networks, contributing to the development of national industrial capabilities and long-term economic value.
Saudia plans to introduce 15 Airbus A321XLR aircraft into its fleet by 2027. The aircraft will support route expansion across tourism, business, major events, and pilgrimage travel segments.
The expansion aligns with the Saudi Aviation Strategy and supports national development objectives under Saudi Vision 2030 as the Kingdom prepares for major international events, including Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034.
