Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Alkhorayef, has discussed ways to enhance Saudi-Indian cooperation in the fertilizer sector with India’s Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda.

The ministers emphasized the enduring and robust relationship between the two countries, underscoring not only their longstanding diplomatic ties but also the growing depth of their economic and trade partnerships.

They emphasized the need to empower the private sector to seize promising investment opportunities in both countries, fostering economic growth while advancing shared development goals and mutual interests.

Furthermore, the ministers explored strategies to strengthen supply chains for phosphate and fertilizer products, highlighting their crucial role in ensuring global food security.

Last year, India and Saudi Arabia inked long-term agreements for the supply of 3.1 million metric tons of DAP fertilizer annually over five years. Under the agreements, the Saudi will provide the fertilizer from 2025–26, with the option to extend the pact for an additional five years by mutual consent.

Saudi Arabia-India Agricultural Relations

Saudi Arabia and India have cultivated strong agricultural ties, driven by mutual trade in key commodities such as grains, pulses, and fertilizers. India exports a range of agricultural products to Saudi Arabia, including rice, spices, and fruits, while Saudi Arabia supplies essential inputs like phosphate and other fertilizers to support India’s farming sector.

According to several reports, recent bilateral discussions have focused on strengthening supply chains, enhancing investment in agro-industrial projects, and fostering technology transfer to boost productivity, with an overarching aim of supporting food security and economic growth in both countries.
