The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Transport General Authority (TGA), under the patronage of Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Acting President of TGA has conducted a pioneering trial for parcel delivery using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the transport and logistics ecosystem to modernize the postal sector. GACA handled the aviation-related operations and regulations, while the TGA managed the postal sector’s regulatory framework and supportive legislation.
Al-Rumaih emphasized that the introduction of drone technology is a significant leap for the parcel delivery sector. He noted that this step will open up new opportunities for expanding services and developing innovative solutions, aligning with the Kingdom’s digital transformation goals.
The minister added that efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s strategic objectives to boost postal and logistics services, improve efficiency, and enhance the system’s ability to adapt to rapid changes in the logistics sector.
GACA Executive Vice President for Aviation Safety and Environmental Sustainability Captain Suleiman Al-Muheimidi commented that the drone delivery trial is a real breakthrough for logistics in the Kingdom. He stated that this initiative will lead to faster, more sustainable, and innovative solutions, and is supported by GACA’s advanced regulatory frameworks that ensure drone operations meet the highest safety and quality standards.
GACA has updated its aviation safety regulations to align with international and regional standards from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This update is a key step toward enabling advanced drone applications while maintaining the highest safety standards.
