Sharjah Media City (Shams) and the Faculty of Communication at the University of Barcelona have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in media, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, scientific research, and academic cooperation.
The agreement was signed at the University of Barcelona in the presence of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council. The MoU was signed by Rashid Abdullah Al Obad, Director-General of Shams, and Dr. Joan G. Burguera, Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Communication at the University of Barcelona.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between Shams and the University’s Faculty of Communication across key areas including media, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, scientific research, and academic and research collaboration in education and the creative industries.
Under the MoU, both parties will strengthen the exchange of academic and professional expertise while supporting the development of joint training programs. The partnership will also facilitate the organization of conferences, seminars, and workshops aimed at advancing the media sector in both institutions.
The collaboration opens new opportunities for Shams and the University of Barcelona to benefit from each other’s best practices while promoting cultural and academic exchange. The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of national talent by equipping students and professionals with the latest global skills, knowledge, and industry expertise in media and creative disciplines.
The agreement will also foster an environment that supports creativity and entrepreneurship by encouraging innovative student projects and helping transform them into market-ready media products. The MoU reflects Shams’ commitment to expanding cooperation with leading international academic institutions to enhance knowledge exchange and innovation in the media and creative sectors.
