The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has held high-level talks with officials from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to strengthen economic ties and build sustainable partnerships between the business communities of both sides.
Discussions focused on boosting bilateral trade and investment and opening new channels for cooperation across sectors of shared interest. The countries stressed the importance of direct communication between businesses to turn opportunities into practical partnerships.
The meeting, held at SCCI headquarters, brought together Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister of Laos, along with members of his delegation.
Oudet Souvannavong, President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI; and representatives from the private sector in Sharjah and Laos were present at the meeting.
Sharjah highlighted its strengths in industry, logistics, trade, tourism, education, and the new economy, while Laos outlined its potential in agriculture, energy, mining, tourism, and manufacturing.
The talks concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SCCI and the LNCCI. The agreement aims to support closer economic cooperation through the exchange of information, coordination of trade delegations and joint missions, and wider promotion of investment opportunities.
The partnership covers capacity-building, knowledge sharing, and increased participation in exhibitions, business forums, seminars, and sector-specific events in both countries.
Abdallah Sultan Al Owais said that the partnership reflects Sharjah’s commitment to diversifying its economic relations and strengthening its position as a global trade and investment hub. He noted that the Emirate offers a welcoming business environment, backed by modern infrastructure, flexible regulations, specialized free zones, and a strategic location linking regional and international markets.
Saleumxay expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and praised the role of the Sharjah Chamber in supporting the private sector. He reaffirmed Laos’ interest in deepening economic and investment cooperation with Sharjah.
The visit concluded with one-on-one meetings between business leaders from both sides, exploring cooperation in areas such as food security, agricultural manufacturing, real estate development, ecotourism, technology, and digital transformation, supported by strong bilateral relations and regulatory facilitation.
