The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), in coordination with the Portuguese Business Council, has hosted a meeting to discuss economic and trade cooperation between Sharjah and Portugal.

The event was held to mark the National Day of the Portuguese Republic and brought together government officials and business representatives from both sides.

The meeting was attended by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI; Fernando Figueirinhas, Ambassador of Portugal to the UAE; and Raghda Hamad Omran Taryam, Board Member of SCCI.

Senior representatives and officials from the Sharjah Chamber, the Portuguese Embassy, the Portuguese Business Council, and the local business community were also present at the meeting.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais said that the current economic momentum in both countries creates opportunities to further expand cooperation between the UAE and Portuguese business communities.

Al Owais noted that the commercial relations between Sharjah and Portugal continue to grow, supported by shared interests in trade, investment, and business development. The stronger engagement between companies and investors can help create additional opportunities for economic cooperation.

Fernando Figueirinhas, Ambassador of Portugal to the UAE, expressed appreciation to the Sharjah Chamber for organizing the event and mentioned the ongoing cooperation between Portugal and the UAE.

Figueirinhas highlighted Sharjah’s position as a regional trade and investment destination, supported by its infrastructure and business-support ecosystem.

The Ambassador also reaffirmed Portugal’s commitment to strengthening economic engagement with Sharjah and encouraging Portuguese companies to expand their presence in the emirate and benefit from available business opportunities.

Lurdes Eusébio, Chairperson of the Portuguese Business Council in Sharjah, emphasized that the support provided by the Sharjah Chamber has helped the council advance its activities and strengthen engagement with Portuguese companies. These efforts have contributed to attracting more Portuguese businesses to Sharjah and supporting commercial ties between the two sides.

During the meeting, participants reviewed initiatives led by the Portuguese Business Council to promote opportunities in sectors including the green and circular economy, renewable energy, agri-tech, smart manufacturing, financial technology, and tourism.

They also examined areas for collaboration that could support investment, business partnerships, and knowledge exchange, with an emphasis on sectors where both markets can benefit from complementary strengths and expertise.
