The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has opened 16 new parks in the Al Shamkhah district of Abu Dhabi City, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance community livability and promote vibrant, sustainable neighborhoods.
This initiative is a key component of the city’s broader strategy to improve public spaces and quality of life for residents.
The new recreational areas highlight the Department’s commitment to creating modern, accessible, and fully equipped public spaces for the community. The new parks feature expansive green lawns, providing plenty of space for relaxation and recreation.
Alongside these open areas, there are eight fitness zones equipped with modern workout facilities, and 25 sports courts catering to a variety of athletic activities. For families, the parks include 26 inclusive children’s play areas, ensuring fun for kids of all abilities.
To further promote active and healthy lifestyles, additional amenities such as well-maintained walking paths, jogging tracks, and comfortable seating areas have been integrated, creating inviting spaces for visitors of all ages to enjoy outdoor activities and social interactions.
Eng Khalifa Abdulla Alqemzi, Head of Capital Projects Execution – Abu Dhabi, at DMT, said that, “The parks in Al Shamkhah are thoughtfully designed to enrich residents’ quality of life by providing safe, enjoyable environments for relaxation, socializing, and outdoor activities. In line with the Year of Community, these recreational hubs aim to strengthen bonds, encourage connection, and enhance belongingness.”
The new parks are the latest community spaces that were opened in the capital this year, including Al Falah district and Mohamed bin Zayed City, as part of the DMT’s efforts to support active, well-integrated neighborhoods that improve everyday life in the emirate.
