Saudi Arabia has inaugurated the world’s largest truck marshalling area at Jeddah Islamic Port, covering 1 million square meters, to improve truck movement and logistics operations.

The 1 million-square-meter facility was inaugurated by Saleh Al-Jasser, Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services.

The new marshalling area will serve as the first transit point for trucks heading to Jeddah Islamic Port before they proceed to gates 4-9, significantly enhancing traffic management and operational efficiency.

The launch coincided with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) signing seven investment agreements worth more than approximately $266.9 million (SR1 billion) to establish and expand logistics centers at Jeddah Islamic Port and the nearby Al-Khumrah logistics area.

The new facility would boost the efficiency of logistics operations and facilitate smoother trade flows. Saleh Al-Jasser noted that Saudi Arabia’s logistics sector has successfully adapted to changes in global shipping routes by redirecting trade toward the Kingdom’s western coastline.

The minister said that the latest agreements increase the number of logistics zones across Saudi ports to 34, with total private-sector investments reaching $4.0 billion (SR15 billion).

The newly signed agreements include the development of an integrated logistics center to support commercial activities and maritime services, as well as another facility dedicated to import, export, and logistics operations.

Among the flagship projects announced is the expansion of Maersk’s logistics zone at Jeddah Islamic Port.

Chinese logistics firm GD Logistics also signed its largest investment outside China through two projects at Jeddah Islamic Port and the Al-Khumrah area. In addition, five Saudi companies signed agreements to establish new logistics zones to strengthen supply chain capabilities.

During the inauguration ceremony, Al-Jasser honored the General Directorate of Border Guard for its contribution to the development of the truck marshalling area.

The recognition acknowledged the agency’s role in enhancing operational efficiency, improving security procedures, and strengthening coordination among government entities operating at the port.

Al-Jasser described that the new facility as a model of collaboration between the transport sector, security agencies, the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority, and private-sector partners.

The project is designed to streamline truck entry and exit, provide a safer and more comfortable environment for drivers, and ease traffic congestion in Jeddah, where tens of thousands of trucks enter the city every day.

The project forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to expand logistics infrastructure, attract private investment, and reinforce its role as a regional gateway for global trade under Vision 2030.
