The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of Abu Dhabi, operating under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has revealed that the city’s green bus fleet has now covered 1.3 million eco-friendly kilometers.

This achievement is part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable mobility across the Emirate. Surpassing the one-million-kilometer mark by the green bus fleet highlights the accelerating shift toward a low-emission public transport network and the growing adoption of clean technologies, including buses powered by hydrogen fuel cells and electric energy.

To mark this milestone, the ITC launched the ‘Public Transport to Work’ initiative for its employees, celebrating World Public Transport Day. Organized by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), this year’s inaugural event brings together cities and transport authorities worldwide to share insights on advancing sustainable transport systems.

The initiative encourages employees to incorporate public transport into their daily commutes, including bus services, while emphasizing the Centre’s wide range of mobility options. This contributes to reducing traffic congestion, cutting carbon emissions, and fostering more sustainable commuting habits across the city.

“Surpassing one million environmentally friendly kilometers by the green bus fleet marks a significant step in Abu Dhabi’s transition towards sustainable transport. This milestone reflects the impact of investing in clean technologies that enhance operational efficiency, improve the customer experience, and support the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 vision.”

The Integrated Transport Centre encourages active participation in the initiative and the use of public transport during the initiative period, in support of environmental sustainability goals and in reinforcement of the UAE’s leadership in smart mobility.
