ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon; Brigid Kosgei shatters Women’s track record

The fifth ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2023 has concluded successfully with more than 23,000 runners taking part across various distances, including the 10km, 5km, 2.5km, and wheelchair race for people of determination.

Representing Kenya, Brigid Kosgei broke the women’s track record in the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon by finishing the race in two hours nineteen minutes and fifteen seconds, while Amare Hailemichael Samson became the first male competitor outside Kenya to win the title.

With Brigid Kosgei, the 2020 London Olympics marathon winner, the top runners in the elite female category were the Ethiopian world-class marathon runners – Hawi Feysa GEJIA in the 2nd position, and Ethlemahu Sintayehu DESSI in the 3rd position, and the Kenyan professional long-distance runners – Aurelia Jerotich KIPTUI in the 4th and Emily Chebet KIPCHUMBA came in 5th.

For securing the 1st position in the Elite Female category Marathon, Kosgei was awarded the $50,000 winner’s cheque and the bonus $30,000 for breaking the course record.

Kosgei has won five major marathons, the 2018 and 2019 Chicago Marathons, the 2019 and 2020 London Marathons and the 2021 Tokyo Marathon.

Amare Hailemichael Samson from Eritrea won the Men’s Abu Dhabi Marathon in two hours seven minutes and ten seconds. The Kenyan long-distance runner stood at 2nd position with two hours nine minutes and thirty seven seconds, Ilham Tanui OZBILEN, represented Turkey at the 3rd position finishing the race in two hours 10 minutes and sixteen seconds. Gideon Kangwony CHEPKONGA came 4th with two hours 11 minutes and seventeen seconds, Kenyan Isaac Kipsang TEMOI in the 5th position finishing at two hours 11 minutes and thirty four seconds.

Ethiopia’s Halefom KESFAY won the 10 km Elite Man race finishing in 28 minutes and 2 seconds, while Fenta ALEMNAT won the Elite Female category in 33 minutes and 34 seconds.

UAE’s Saeed ALDHAHERI and Oman’s Sami ALSULAIMI stood at 1st and 2nd position respectively in the 10 km Wheelchair marathon race.

With a record of 13 minutes and 37 seconds, Sathiyaseelan Karippasamy became winner in the 5 km race, while Corrie Daubert secured the female title with a time of 13 minutes and 31 seconds.

Anoop A J won the 2.5 km race in 21 minutes 44 seconds, while Firra A ROSLAN emerged as the winner in female category with 36 minutes and 52 seconds.

In the race for the People of Determination (POD), Nabil ABBAS BAABAD finished first with 35 minutes 33 seconds, while Mouza AL HAMED made it to the top in females with 25 minutes and 45 seconds.

Furthermore, ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon has announced the date of its 6th edition, which will be held on December 14th 2024, looking for the next winners and a day of achieving the goal of healthy event.
