ADNOC Hail and Ghasha offshore mega project has achieved a critical milestone with the successful ‘sail-out’ and installation of core offshore infrastructure, marking a significant development for the Middle East’s energy sector.

This achievement by ADNOC Hail and Ghasha project strengthens the UAE’s energy leadership and supports regional gas self-sufficiency targets. It demonstrates the high level of coordination and engineering expertise among ADNOC’s project teams and partners, ensuring safe and efficient execution. The Hail and Gasha project also marks the beginning of the next phase in offshore infrastructure development.

The structures, known as steel ‘jackets’, were completed at the NMDC Energy Yard in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi, and delivered on schedule. Built to the highest safety and quality standards, the first two jackets were loaded onto a cargo barge and transported 160 kilometres offshore. Using NMDC’s Safeen-3000 vessel, they were accurately placed on the seabed, forming the foundation of ADNOC’s offshore gas facilities.

The ADNOC Hail and Ghasha project is the world’s largest offshore sour gas development and a cornerstone of the UAE’s strategy for gas self-sufficiency and export growth. Once operational, the project will produce 1.5 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, enough to meet the combined daily demand of Ireland, Greece, and Portugal.

“ADNOC Hail and Ghasha project is an important enabler of UAE gas self-sufficiency, and this sail-out puts us one step closer to delivering on the project. The mega-project is being Made in the Emirates, driving industrial growth and reinforcing the UAE’s advanced manufacturing capabilities.”

Aligned with the UAE’s climate objectives, the project is designed to operate with net-zero emissions, incorporating carbon capture capabilities to remove 1.5 million ton of CO2 annually, equivalent to taking 300,000 fossil-fuel vehicles off the roads. With 118 UAE graduates recruited across the project to date, this provides highly skilled career opportunities for UAE nationals to play a key role in delivering this world-scale project.

The ADNOC Hail and Ghasha project exemplifies the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ initiative, with significant In-Country Value generated through local manufacturing, UAE-based suppliers, and employment. With 118 UAE graduates already onboard, ADNOC is actively building the next generation of energy professionals across the region.
