Etihad Rail, in coordination with the Emergencies, Crises, and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC), has operated a trial passenger train on the route linking Al Ghuwaifat Station on the Saudi border to Al Faya Station in Abu Dhabi.
The initiative is part of proactive measures to ensure continuity of vital services while providing safe and reliable transport alternatives under dynamic risk-assessment protocols.
Strategic connectivity and operational significance
The Al Ghuwaifat–Al Faya railway corridor serves as a strategic cross-border link between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, significantly enhancing regional connectivity and facilitating trade, passenger movement, and logistics integration.
The route supports both nationals and residents while enabling authorities to activate alternative pathways in line with approved contingency plans.
The trial operation forms part of a wider set of coordinated measures designed to strengthen logistical security, integrate operational roles across sectors, and ensure resilience under multi-scenario risk management and business continuity frameworks.
