National rail network expansion

HH Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs and Chairman of Etihad Rail, emphasized that the passenger rail network represents an important step in the development of the UAE’s national transport system.

The project combines modern technologies with integrated transport solutions to provide a safe, efficient, and reliable passenger experience.

According to Sheikh Theyab, the network’s stations will be integrated with other transport services, improving connectivity between cities and major destinations while providing passengers with more flexible travel options and supporting urban development across the country.

Phased rollout of passenger services

Etihad Rail announced that an introductory operational phase between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah will begin on June 30, 2026, reducing travel time between the two emirates to approximately one hour and 45 minutes.

The full passenger rail network will officially launch on September 30, 2026, with the opening of Dubai Train Station and Al Dhaid Train Station.

Additional stations in Al Dhafra are scheduled to open on December 30, 2026, while the final phase of the route will be completed with the opening of Sharjah Train Station on March 30, 2027.

Etihad Rail also confirmed that feasibility studies will be undertaken as part of the next phase to assess future expansion of passenger rail services to additional emirates.

The passenger fleet consists of 13 trains, each capable of carrying up to 400 passengers. Customers will be able to book tickets through the Etihad Rail mobile application and official website from June 23, 2026.

Passenger services and hospitality

Passenger rail services will be operated by Etihad Rail Passenger Services, a joint venture between Etihad Rail and Keolis, combining international railway operating expertise with local transport management capabilities.

The stations will include cafés, restaurants, retail outlets, and international brands, while onboard dining services will also be available to passengers.

According to Etihad Rail, these facilities are designed to provide an integrated travel experience for citizens, residents, visitors, and business travelers.

The passenger rail project forms part of the UAE Railway Program, launched under the Projects of the 50 initiative in 2021.

According to Etihad Rail, the program is built around three core pillars: freight services, passenger rail services, and integrated transport solutions.
