Meta Platforms has launched paid subscription plans across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, expanding its subscription-based offerings with additional premium features for users.

The company announced the rollout of the new ‘Plus’ subscription plans through an official Instagram post, where Naomi Gleit, Head of Product at Meta, outlined the company’s latest monetization initiative.

According to the plan, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will be priced at $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus will cost $2.99 per month. The subscription plans are being introduced globally in phases.

Premium features for Instagram and Facebook users

Under the new offering, Instagram Plus subscribers will gain access to a range of enhanced features focused on profile customization, audience engagement, and content visibility.

These include story rewatch insights, unlimited audience lists, extended story visibility beyond the standard 24-hour duration, and the ability to preview stories anonymously without appearing in viewer lists.

The premium Instagram plan also introduces weekly spotlight boosts designed to improve content reach, along with animated ‘Super Heart’ reactions, personalized bio fonts, custom app icons, and expanded profile pinning options.

Facebook Plus will provide similar premium tools centered on profile enhancements and engagement features, while WhatsApp Plus will focus primarily on personalization capabilities. Additional WhatsApp features include customized themes, premium sticker packs, personalized ringtones, and expanded pinned chat functionality.

Meta expands subscription-based revenue strategy

Meta stated that the launch forms part of a broader strategy to diversify revenue streams beyond digital advertising. Naomi Gleit also revealed that the company is developing additional subscription offerings targeting businesses, content creators, and AI-powered services.

The expansion comes as Meta significantly increases investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure and related technologies. The company recently projected capital expenditure between $125 billion and $145 billion this year, largely driven by AI data centers and computing infrastructure. Following the announcement, Meta shares rose nearly 3 percent in market trading.

Future integration under ‘Meta One’

Meta also disclosed plans to eventually unify its subscription ecosystem under a single brand identity called ‘Meta One,’ which would consolidate premium offerings across its platforms and future AI services.

The latest rollout builds on Meta’s earlier subscription initiatives introduced in Europe in 2023, when the company launched ad-free paid versions of Facebook and Instagram to comply with European Union privacy regulations.
