Meta is launching an ‘incognito’ mode for WhatsApp, allowing users to have private conversations with its AI chatbot.
The feature aims to address privacy concerns and give users greater control over sensitive information shared in chats.
The social media company stated in a blog post that the new incognito chat mode allows users to have private, temporary conversations with Meta AI, the artificial intelligence assistant that has been available on WhatsApp for several years.
Messages will be processed in a ‘secure environment’ that even Meta can’t access, won’t be saved by default, and will disappear when exiting a session, Meta said.
Powered by WhatsApp’s Private Processing technology, the new Incognito Chat feature lets users interact with Meta AI in a way that remains completely private from others.
While other apps offer incognito-style modes, they still have access to the questions and answers exchanged. Meta’s Incognito Chat with Meta AI, however, is fully private; no one, not even Meta, can read the conversations, as per the statement.
As per the statement, “Starting an Incognito Chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp creates a private, temporary conversation visible only to you. Messages are processed in a secure environment that even Meta cannot access, and conversations are not saved. By default, messages disappear, giving users a safe space to ask questions and explore ideas without being monitored.”
In the coming months, the company plans to launch Sidechat, also protected by Private Processing. Sidechat with Meta AI will offer private assistance within any WhatsApp conversation, providing context-aware help without interrupting the main chat.
