Nebras Energy has secured two major power generation projects in Oman, marking a significant expansion of its regional footprint and reinforcing its long-term growth strategy in the energy sector.
Through one of its subsidiaries, Nebras Energy, formerly known as Qatar Electricity & Water Company, has secured contracts to develop two natural gas-fired combined-cycle gas turbine power plants with a total capacity exceeding 2,500 megawatts, awarded for a period of 20 years.
The two projects include the Misfah Power Plant, with a total installed capacity of 1,700 megawatts, and the Duqm Power Plant, which will generate 877 megawatts. The agreements were signed with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama), the sole procurer of power and water in the Sultanate.
Under the Misfah project, Nebras Energy has secured a 49 percent stake, partnering with Emirates Water and Electricity Company, which holds 44 percent, and Bahwan Infrastructure Services with a 7 percent share.
In the Duqm project, Nebras Energy owns a 30 percent stake alongside Emirates Water and Electricity Company with 30 percent, Korean Western Power Co Ltd with 35 percent, and Bahwan Infrastructure Services with 5 percent.
According to the statement, the construction work on both power plants is set to begin this month. Initial commercial operations are expected to commence in April 2028, with full commercial operations scheduled for April 2029.
Once completed, the two combined-cycle gas turbine plants are expected to play a vital role in meeting Oman’s growing electricity demand, supporting industrial expansion, economic development, and population growth, while also enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the national power grid.
Nebras Energy Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Eng. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Hajri described the award of the two projects as a qualitative milestone for the company.
Eng. Al Hajri said that the wins represent an important expansion of Nebras Energy’s presence in the Omani energy market and align with its strategy to strengthen its asset base through technological and market diversification.
Furthermore, he added that investing in projects with strong economic fundamentals remains central to the company’s long-term growth ambitions.
The projects also underscore the strengthening energy cooperation between Qatar and Oman and reflect shared regional priorities in developing efficient, large-scale power infrastructure to support sustainable economic growth. The participation of leading regional and international partners brings together extensive technical expertise, operational experience, and financial strength, ensuring the successful delivery of both projects.
