Qatar has achieved a landmark milestone in food security, reaching 99 percent self-sufficiency in the production of dairy and its derivatives, according to Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, Minister of Municipality and Chairman of the Committee for Follow-up on the Implementation of Food Security Policies.

The Minister affirmed that the progress reflects the effectiveness of national strategies aimed at enhancing domestic production, stabilizing markets, and ensuring consistent food availability.

Al Attiyah underscored that the achievement is the result of sustained policy efforts to strengthen self-reliance while maintaining high standards across the food production ecosystem.

The remarks were made during an inspection visit to Baladna Food Industries, one of the country’s leading dairy producers.

The visit was attended by the company’s Chairman, Moutaz Al Khayyat, and focused on reviewing the operational readiness and resilience of Qatar’s food production system.

During the tour, the Minister examined farm operations and production lines, noting that the company currently meets approximately 99 percent of the local market’s demand for fresh dairy products and their derivatives.

He also reviewed the availability of agricultural and industrial inputs, which are sufficient to sustain production for more than ten months—an indicator of strong supply chain preparedness and market stability.

Al Attiyah highlighted the critical role played by national companies in supporting local production and reinforcing supply chain resilience. He noted that such contributions are central to achieving long-term sustainability and ensuring uninterrupted access to essential food products.

Company officials briefed the Minister on ongoing initiatives to enhance production efficiency, expand capacity, and align output with evolving domestic demand.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to maintain competitiveness while adhering to international quality standards.

Al Khayyat stated that the Minister’s visit reflects the government’s strong commitment to the food production sector. He emphasized that the continued state support has enabled the company to build an integrated, world-class production system capable of delivering high-quality dairy products efficiently and sustainably.

The inspection forms part of a broader series of field visits conducted by the Ministry of Municipality across agricultural, livestock, and food production facilities.

These tours aim to assess the readiness of national production systems, track the progress of key projects, and ensure the stability of food supplies.
