The Qatari delegation, led by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, took part in the high-level opening session of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), which is currently underway in Seville, Spain.

The FfD4 conference aims to advance the United Nations’ agenda on financing for development by building upon the commitments of three previous global conferences. It continues the global dialogue on development finance, reinforcing key principles established since the inaugural gathering in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2002.

The Monterrey conference in 2002 had laid the foundational principles for international development financing. Qatar played a prominent role by hosting the second conference in 2008 during the global financial crisis, where the focus shifted toward mitigating the crisis’s impact on developing nations. The third session, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2015, resulted in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, a comprehensive strategy for financing sustainable development.

On the sidelines of the FfD4 conference, HE Al Misnad held a bilateral meeting with Patricia Danzi, Vice-Minister for International Cooperation and Director-General of the Swiss Development Cooperation Agency (SDC).

The two officials reviewed the ongoing relations between Qatar and the Swiss Confederation and explored ways to strengthen collaboration, especially in the fields of international development and humanitarian assistance. Both sides emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts and integrating roles to support sustainable humanitarian responses in regions affected by conflict, particularly in Syria and Afghanistan.

Qatar’s participation in the FfD4 conference reflects its continued commitment to global development dialogues and its ongoing support for multilateral efforts to improve humanitarian and development outcomes worldwide.
