The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for many matters related to information and communication technologies, has selected Saudi Arabia as a member of its Digital Regulation Network Board.
The Board is represented by the Deputy Governor for Regulation and Competition at Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) Eng. Omar Alrejraje.
According to the CST, this appointment is a new confirmation of the Kingdom’s international leadership position and the global confidence in its regulatory capabilities and ability to lead worldwide digital regulatory initiatives.
This selection follows Saudi Arabia’s accomplishment of ranking second among G20 countries and fourth globally in digital regulatory readiness, as well as achieving a leadership level in digital regulatory maturity (G5) issued by the ITU.

The CST added that the network includes 13 entities representing regulatory bodies from various regions around the world to discuss key challenges and opportunities, share experiences, provide recommendations and strategic directions, and launch programs and initiatives that contribute to accelerating digital transformation, enhancing international cooperation in the digital economy, and enabling a motivating environment for innovation and investment.
It is noted that Saudi Arabia has been a member of the ITU Council for nearly six decades and is an active contributor to ITU initiatives, objectives, working groups, and committees. The Kingdom seeks to strengthen regional and international collaboration and solidarity in the communications sector.
A recent report highlighted Saudi Arabia’s growing space economy which reached $8.7bn in 2024, according to the CST. The report aims to highlight the latest developments and growth in local and global space market sizes, support market development and competitiveness, assist investors and entrepreneurs in the sector, and identify promising opportunities in the space industry.
