Saudi Arabia has affirmed its commitment to strengthening maritime security, leveraging its strategic regional and global role through participation in the IMO Council’s extraordinary session in London via the Transport General Authority (TGA)
The Saudi Arabian delegation was headed by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the IMO, Eng. Kamal Al-Junaidi. Speaking on behalf of the Kingdom’s delegation, Eng. Al-Junaidi reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s full commitment to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
Al-Junaidi highlighted key focus areas including navigational warnings, search and rescue operations, vessel routing systems, and proactive measures to avoid maritime hazards, all of which are critical to ensuring safer seas.
He emphasized the importance of protecting vital maritime routes, safeguarding freedom of navigation, and maintaining the stability of global energy markets and supply chains. He also noted that the Kingdom remains committed to acting as a responsible international partner dedicated to maritime safety, the protection of lives, and the promotion of a rules-based international system through joint cooperation.
As part of its efforts to strengthen international collaboration, Saudi Arabia affirmed it will continue enhancing maritime navigation security by advancing monitoring capabilities, expanding information exchange, increasing readiness to respond to emerging threats, and ensuring the smooth flow of global trade through secure and stable maritime corridors.
This participation reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing role within the IMO Council, where it serves as an active member supporting international maritime initiatives. The TGA continues to represent Saudi Arabia in the council, implementing commitments related to international conventions and treaties, and contributing to global maritime policymaking and decision-making processes.
