Saudi Aramco has announced the upcoming launch of its 98-octane gasoline product in January 2026, in response to domestic market needs outlined by the Ministry of Energy.

This move is part of the company’s strategy to expand consumer fuel options and diversify its product portfolio, while ensuring that the introduction of the new fuel does not disrupt existing products available to consumers.

Initially, the product will be available in Riyadh, Jeddah, and the Dammam metropolitan area, as well as along major connecting highways, targeting regions with the highest demand for this fuel type. Saudi Aramco stated that further expansion of availability will be considered based on a review of demand levels in these areas.

Designed to meet the specific needs of sports vehicles and high-performance engines that require a higher-octane rating for optimal performance, the product aims to provide a specialized fuel option for those seeking improved engine efficiency.

Why 98-Octane Gasoline?

98-octane gasoline is a high-performance fuel designed for vehicles that require a higher compression ratio to function optimally. The ‘octane rating’ of gasoline indicates its ability to resist ‘knocking’ or ‘pinging’ during combustion, which is caused by fuel prematurely igniting in the engine.

A higher-octane rating means the fuel is more stable and can withstand higher compression before igniting, making it suitable for high-performance and sports vehicles with advanced engines.

Saudi Aramco to reveal 98-octane gasoline pricing on website

Saudi Aramco announced that the price of the 98-octane gasoline will be made available on its website under the retail fuel sales section at the time of its domestic market launch later this month.

Additionally, the price will be subject to periodic reviews and adjustments, in accordance with the established governance procedures for regulating energy and water product prices, ensuring that it remains aligned with market conditions and regulatory guidelines.
