Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) to strengthen technical cooperation between the two parties.
The memorandum of understanding was signed during the 42nd General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada.
The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in the development and operation of aviation infrastructure. It also seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two parties.
In a post on X, GACA stated that, “The agreement aims to support the operation, modernization, and development of aviation infrastructure, while promoting the exchange of expertise and best practices based on mutual benefit, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Kingdom and the member states of the African Union.”
Saudi Arabia and African nations are witnessing steadily expanding cooperation in the aviation sector, fueled by shared goals of improving regional connectivity, upgrading aviation infrastructure, and aligning regulatory frameworks to international standards. This growing partnership reflects a strategic interest on both sides in leveraging air transport as a catalyst for economic growth, trade facilitation, and tourism development.
During the event, which was attended by a high-level delegation led by Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser, the Kingdom announced its intention to seek re-election to the ICAO Council under Category II for the 2025–2028 term.
According to the reports, the announcement reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment to remaining an active member and a key contributor to shaping global civil aviation policies.
