Saudi Arabia, Netherlands ink pacts to develop agricultural sector

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have signed several bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs), to enhance mutual agricultural sector.

The MoUs aims to enhance partnership between entities in the field of environment, water and agriculture sectors.

Signed along with Saudi and Dutch companies and entities, the deals include investments exceeding SAR 428 million ($114 million) to develop and localize advanced technologies in environmental, water and agricultural fields.

Saudi Arabian Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Mansour bin Hilal Al Mushaiti oversaw the signing of 27 agreements and MoUs, in the presence of senior officials from the ministry and representatives from both the public and private sectors.

The signing includes;

  • A MoU between the Saudi National Program for the Development of the Livestock and Fisheries Sector and the Dutch company VigGuard to establish cooperation to localize livestock disease control research.
  • MoUs were also signed between the National Center for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Development, the Dutch Greenhouse Alliance, the Dutch company Hoogendoorn, Hudson River Biotechnology, and Wageningen University, to launch initiatives in the fields of agricultural technology and research, and to establish capacity-building partnerships in the fields of agricultural innovation, greenhouse farming solutions, and green biotechnology.

The visit comes as part of the ministry’s strategy to enhance the global competitiveness of Saudi Arabia’s agricultural sector, expand the production and export of local agricultural products, boost trade with the Netherlands and strengthen international partnerships in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
