The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) have signed an addendum to their existing MoU, strengthening collaboration in global halal certification.

Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Rashoudi, CEO of the Saudi Halal Center, and Dr. Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of BPJPH, signed the addendum, which aims to unify halal certification procedures between the two countries.

The agreement formalized during the third Makkah Halal Forum will establish a digital halal system, enable mutual recognition of the global halal mark, and use QR codes to verify products and certificates efficiently

The signing ceremony was attended by Sheikh Dr. Saad Al-Shathri, Advisor at the Royal Court and Member of the Council of Senior Scholars; Minister of Commerce Majid Al-Kassabi; Saad Al-Kasabi, Governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO); Dr. Hisham Aljadhey, CEO of the SFDA and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Halal Center; and Abdullah Saleh Kamel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development.

The partnership also extends to collaboration through the Halal Academy, focusing on capacity building, training programs, and knowledge exchange to strengthen technical expertise and governance in the halal sector.

This strategic step highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting the halal industry and enhancing its global competitiveness. By standardizing procedures, integrating digital solutions, and expanding cooperation with international partners, the agreement aims to meet growing regional and global demand for halal products while increasing market accessibility.

The SFDA and BPJPH addendum underscores the shared vision of the countries in advancing the halal sector, ensuring compliance with international standards, and positioning Saudi Arabia as a leading global hub for halal products and services.
