The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority has launched an integrated logistics corridor with Oman, developed in coordination with Oman Customs, to strengthen trade connectivity between Sharjah and major Omani ports through land border crossings.

The new logistics corridor is designed to improve regional supply chain efficiency, accelerate cargo movement, and expand logistics options for businesses across the UAE and Oman. Operations officially began on May 14 after all technical and coordination requirements were completed.

The logistics corridor connects Sharjah with key Omani ports, including Sohar Port, Duqm Port and Salalah Port, creating a flexible logistics network aimed at supporting uninterrupted trade flows and evolving market demand.

The first shipments have already moved from Port Khalid to Sohar Port through the Khatmat Malaha Border Crossing, marking the official start of live cargo operations. Two-way cargo movement between Sharjah and Oman has also commenced.

The logistics corridor forms part of Sharjah’s wider integrated logistics ecosystem, supported by maritime infrastructure on both the eastern and western coasts. Khorfakkan Port continues to play a central role as a major regional maritime hub handling cargo and container operations.

Authorities stated that the logistics corridor strengthens integration between sea and land transport by extending logistics connectivity beyond existing maritime routes. The initiative is intended to improve operational flexibility, diversify transport options, and expand market access without replacing current shipping routes.

Cargo movement is being facilitated primarily through Khatmat Malaha Border Crossing and Al Madam Border Crossing, improving connectivity between ports and commercial centers in both countries.

Under the new system, customs clearance procedures can be completed directly at Sharjah’s border crossings, reducing cargo processing time, lowering transportation costs, and speeding up cargo release.

The logistics corridor also includes fast-track shipment lanes, pre-arrival data processing, direct customs-supervised transport, and real-time data exchange between Sharjah Customs and Oman Customs. Officials said the measures are aimed at improving reliability, operational efficiency, and supply chain resilience.

The initiative is expected to support import, export and re-export activities by enabling manufacturers, traders and free zone companies to access regional and global markets through more flexible logistics solutions. It will also facilitate the movement of goods arriving through Omani ports into UAE markets via Sharjah’s land crossings.

A joint working team has been established between both sides to oversee operations, coordinate logistics procedures, and enhance customs data exchange in line with international safety and risk management standards.

The Authority said the project reflects growing strategic and economic integration between the UAE and Oman while reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a leading regional logistics hub. Future expansion plans for the corridor include the addition of air freight services to further improve supply chain flexibility, sustainability and regional trade growth.
