Abu Dhabi’s fresh produce and agritech company Silal has signed an agreement with UAE-based agricultural projects developer Agritek to develop large-scale agriculture projects in the emirate using cutting-edge technology solutions.
According to the company, the deal comes as part of Silal’s commitment to contribute to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy, which intends to ensure access to sufficient and high-quality food.
Under the terms of the deal, Agritek will use modern irrigation, fertigation, and temperature control management technologies to build farms for Silal and contracted farmers.
These technologies will provide the optimum conditions for crops to grow, improve the efficacy of resource use, and increase farms’ operational efficiency. Modern nurseries will also be built to enhance the quality of seedlings and seeds provided to farmers.

“At Silal, we believe that good agricultural conditions and healthy fresh produce intersect. Adopting the latest agritech solutions to overcome the challenging agricultural conditions is a prerequisite for growing crops in harsh environments, such as the UAE’s. We are delighted to collaborate with Agritek to deploy commercially feasible technologies to maximize farming productivity and improve the diversity of crop production in the UAE. This falls within our remit to introduce proven technologies suitable for desert farming – ones that help leverage the food and agriculture ecosystem in the UAE.”
Agritek will support Silal in the farm upgrade project, which was announced in November 2021. Further, the UAE company will help Silal to support Abu Dhabi farmers through technology deployment and boost the volume of high-quality, local production of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to minimize dependency on imports.
“Agritek is guided by a vision to bring superior solutions and services to the agriculture sector in the UAE, helping local growers to maximize yield from their crops using modern technology to grow better. At Agritek, we aim to advance the future of farming and food security in the UAE using sustainable, effective, and high-tech solutions,” said Mr. Sultan Al Jaberi, CEO of Agritek.
