The University of Sharjah (UoS) and Lootah BioFuels have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in education, scientific research, renewable energy and environmental sustainability, supporting the UAE’s efforts to advance a circular economy and reduce carbon emissions.

The agreement was signed at the University of Sharjah by Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and Yusuf Saeed Lootah, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lootah BioFuels.

The partnership aims to establish a framework for academic and technical collaboration, including knowledge exchange, research development, training programs and linking scientific research with industrial applications in sustainability and clean energy.

Prof. Agamy welcomed the partnership, highlighting Lootah Group’s commitment to renewable and sustainable energy and its role in supporting the UAE’s green economy. He said the University of Sharjah has developed a strong academic and research platform in the field, including specialized bachelor’s and master’s programs in energy, with doctoral programs planned soon, alongside research projects focused on solar energy, green hydrogen and sustainable fuel technologies.

Prof. Agamy further commented that the cooperation would support student training, research projects, graduation projects and master’s theses, helping prepare national talent capable of contributing to the UAE’s sustainability goals.

Yusuf Saeed Lootah stated that the partnership with University of Sharjah reflects the company’s commitment to supporting scientific research, knowledge exchange and raising awareness about recycling and clean energy. He added that the cooperation would contribute to developing qualified young professionals capable of supporting the transition towards a circular economy and creating innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions and achieve environmental sustainability.

Under the MoU, both sides will collaborate on scientific research, innovation, academic events, workshops, training programs and educational initiatives. The agreement also includes projects related to environmental sustainability, the circular economy and sustainable energy, including efforts to recycle used oils generated by the university’s activities and convert them into biofuel and sustainable energy products in line with approved UAE standards.
