The second edition of the Wheat Festival has kicked off at the Mleiha Wheat Farm, organised by the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock, and offering an engaging lineup of activities, including live demonstrations, interactive workshops, family friendly entertainment, and competitions.
The Wheat Festival opened in the presence of HE Dr Eng Khalifa Musabeh Al Teneiji, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock and Chairman of Sharjah Agriculture and Livestock Production EST (Ektifa).
During the opening tour, the Chairman explored the various pavilions and features of the festival, which runs until February 8. The Wheat Festival serves as a comprehensive platform celebrating Sharjah’s agricultural wealth, empowering farmers and home based businesses by providing them with enhanced marketing opportunities.
The Wheat Festival also expands investment prospects for UAE nationals operating small and medium enterprises, in line with Sharjah’s vision for sustainable and inclusive development. Visitors can enjoy exclusive discounts of up to 40 percent on a wide range of Ektifa’s organic products during the event.
The festival underlines the strategic significance of wheat cultivation as a key pillar of national food security. It also spotlights the vital role of farmers in the food production ecosystem and showcases the latest advancements in organic farming techniques designed to elevate the quality and efficiency of local produce.
HE Dr Khalifa Al Teneiji noted that this year’s edition introduces a broader range of experiences tailored to diverse community segments. The Wheat Festival allows visitors to purchase freshly harvested organic produce directly from the farm, reflecting Ektifa’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and reconnecting people with nature.
The Chairman emphasized that the event seamlessly blends education and entertainment, showcasing the richness of the UAE’s environment and its deep-rooted agricultural heritage. He added that the festival also offers visitors the chance to explore Mleiha’s striking natural landscapes, distinctive winter atmosphere, and iconic landmarks, reinforcing its status as one of the UAE’s leading tourist destinations.
The organising committee also announced a photography competition for the best image captured by visitors during the festival. Open daily from 4 PM to 10 PM, the event invites the public to participate, with the competition aimed at supporting emerging talent, particularly university students and aspiring photographers, by providing a platform to showcase their creativity.
