The National Grain Supply Company (SABIL), in collaboration with NEOM, has unloaded its first wheat shipment at the Port of NEOM in northwestern Saudi Arabia.

The vessel carried 66,000 tonnes of wheat, marking the start of grain handling operations for the company at the port.

SABIL stated that the shipment is part of its strategy to diversify logistics channels, improve supply chain efficiency, and strengthen the distribution of grain across the Kingdom. The new route will increase operational flexibility and expand access to targeted regions.

Distribution to Northern regions

The company emphasized that using the Port of NEOM will reduce delivery times for grain shipments to its branches in Tabuk, Al-Jouf, Hail, and Qassim.

According to SABIL, the new logistics route will improve distribution efficiency and service levels by enabling faster movement of grain to the northern regions.

The company added that the initiative forms part of its efforts to strengthen the national grain supply system through logistics partnerships and supply chain development.)

The initiative also supports the Kingdom’s food security objectives by improving supply chain reliability and ensuring the continued availability of grain across its distribution network.

Expanding logistics network

The company added that the operation is part of broader efforts to expand cooperation with strategic partners and make greater use of the Kingdom’s ports for grain imports.

Diversifying logistics gateways will help support the sustainable movement of grain into domestic markets and improve the resilience of its supply chain network.

The company has continued to expand its grain handling operations across Saudi Arabia through its network of port facilities, supporting the import, storage, and distribution of essential food commodities.

Role of NEOM Port

Located on the Red Sea in northwestern Saudi Arabia, the Port of NEOM is being developed as an integrated logistics hub supporting the Kingdom’s transport and logistics sector.

The port provides connectivity between Asia, Europe, and Africa through maritime and land transport networks.

It is being developed to handle cargo, land freight, coastal shipping, and multimodal transport services connecting destinations across Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the wider Middle East.

The port also supports regional trade and logistics activities while serving industrial and commercial developments within NEOM.

Its location on the Red Sea provides direct access to one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, supporting cargo movement and regional connectivity.

SABIL underscores that the first wheat shipment through the Port of NEOM reflects its continued efforts to improve grain logistics through strategic partnerships and modern supply chain solutions.
