The Arab League and the University for Peace (UPEACE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance academic cooperation and capacity building in peace, development, and human rights.
The MoU, signed at the headquarters of the Arab League Mission, was under Bahrain’s chairmanship of the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Geneva.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva; Hichem Bayoudh, Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States to the United Nations Office at Geneva; David Fernández, Permanent Observer of the University for Peace to the United Nations Office in Geneva; a number of Arab ambassadors accredited in Geneva; and a team from UPEACE.
Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla said the cooperation comes within the framework of enhancing partnerships between the Arab League and international academic institutions, enabling Arab professionals to benefit from the University for Peace and United Nations programs, particularly in multilateral relations, in support of development and peacebuilding efforts and to enhance Arab participation in international educational and research frameworks.
The Arab League is a confederation of twenty-two Arab nations, which focuses on strengthening relations between its member states, coordinating their policies and cooperation between them while safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of each member.
