Bahrain’s National Space Science Agency (NSSA), in collaboration with the UAE’s Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), has conducted an interactive virtual session ahead of its ‘Al Munther’ satellite launch.
The session featured Emirati astronauts Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matrooshi, and engaged over 1000 students from ten educational institutions across Bahrain.
The discussions revolved around crucial topics such as the key role of space investment in economic development, the space sector’s contributions to sustainable development goals, and advancements in satellite technology, particularly the increasing shift towards small and Nano satellites.
Additionally, the session emphasized the upcoming launch of Bahrain’s ‘Al Munther’ satellite, which integrates artificial intelligence for data and image analysis, as well as the space cooperation between Bahrain and the UAE and its impact on innovation and sustainability in the region.
During the session, the astronauts highlighted the importance of scientific and technical disciplines for youth seeking to enter the space sector, to further advance this promising field.
Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the NSSA, stated that the session falls in line with the directives of Lieutenant General His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor, Royal Guard Commander, and Secretary General of the Supreme Defence Council. Al Aseeri also noted that the event coincides with the NSSA’s preparations for the ‘Al Munther’ satellite launch.
The pioneering initiative comes as part of NSSA’s efforts to increase space science awareness among young people and flourish opportunities for students and enthusiasts to explore new frontiers in the evolving space sector.
