The Buraidah Dates Carnival, the world’s largest event of its kind, has become a key driver of economic development, investment, and youth empowerment in Saudi Arabia’s Qassim Region.

Held annually at Buraidah Dates City, the carnival is organized by the National Center for Palms and Dates and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, under the supervision of the Principality of Qassim Region.

Home to over 11 million palm trees, Qassim plays a vital role in the Kingdom’s date production, contributing nearly 50 percent of the national output, which totals upto 1.6 million tons annually.

The Buraidah Dates Carnival, which began in early August, showcases over 100 varieties of dates, including sukkari, khalas, saq’i, wannanah, shaqra, barhi, majdool, and hoshanah. These premium varieties have established Qassim as a hub for food security and agricultural investment.

Buraidah Dates City transforms into a thriving marketplace during the Buraidah Dates Carnival, offering a robust environment for trade, entrepreneurship, and value-added services. Opportunities span from buying and selling to packaging, sorting, storing, and delivery, providing a practical launchpad for aspiring entrepreneurs and contributing to income diversification.

In line with Saudi Vision 2030, the Ministry’s Qassim branch is leveraging the Buraidah Dates Carnival to empower youth, develop national talent, and foster an innovation-driven agricultural sector. Participation in the carnival is seen as a real-world training platform for future business leaders in date production and marketing, strengthening the sustainability of the local market.

The Buraidah Dates Carnival reflects the ongoing support of the Kingdom’s leadership for the agricultural sector in general, and particularly for palm cultivation. The event aligns with broader national goals to improve modern irrigation, increase high-yield date varieties and encourage farmers to expand their cultivation practices.

Further strengthening its impact, the National Center for Palms and Dates announced the continuation of its digital platform for seasonal markets for a second consecutive year. The free electronic registration system documents transactions digitally to enhance transparency, protect stakeholder rights, and improve overall market efficiency.

Built on six strategic pillars, the platform aims to streamline contract management, sales, governance, and decision making through a comprehensive data ecosystem. Last year, it successfully documented thousands of transactions, supporting a more professional marketplace and accelerating the sector’s digital transformation.
