Several airports under Cluster 2 Airports have achieved Carbon Accreditation from the Airports Council International (ACI) at different levels, underscoring their commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives.
Arar Airport reached Level 4+, one of the highest tiers in the ACI Carbon Accreditation program. This level requires airports to implement comprehensive policies and measures aimed at reducing absolute carbon emissions in accordance with international best practices.
Other airports under Cluster 2, including King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Jazan, Najran Airport, Sharurah Airport, Wadi Al-Dawasir Airport, and Al-Wajh Airport, achieved Level 2 accreditation.
Airports at this level are required to establish clear emissions reduction targets, implement strategies to lower carbon output, and provide verifiable evidence of measurable reductions in their overall carbon footprint, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable airport operations and environmental responsibility.
The ACI Carbon Accreditation program is a globally recognized framework that evaluates airports’ efforts to manage and reduce emissions through seven progressive levels, reflecting their advancement toward carbon neutrality. The program independently assesses airports on carbon management practices, operational efficiency, and sustainability initiatives.
Launched in January 2022, Cluster 2 specializes in the development, management, and operation of regional, local, and international airports across Saudi Arabia, providing integrated travel experiences for passengers, ensuring high operational efficiency, world-class service standards, and seamless connectivity across the Kingdom’s growing aviation network.
These achievements reflect Cluster 2 Airports’ ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and support for the Saudi Civil Aviation Environmental Sustainability Program and the Saudi Green Initiative, which aim to accelerate the Kingdom’s transition toward comprehensive environmental sustainability.
