Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has concluded its technical and digital services system for crowd management, a pivotal element to ensure the safety of the pilgrims during their performance of the Hajj rituals this season.
The goal is achieved through an advanced infrastructure, through which the CST contributes to facilitating crowd management by increasing the number of communication towers, including fifth-generation (5G) towers, with a relative increase compared to the previous year.
AI in Crowd Management
According to the statement, the CST worked to expand the Wi-Fi network to various access points in Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites, enabling pilgrims to connect to the internet easily. It utilized artificial intelligence (AI) in crowd management by analyzing data and improving crowd flow, which contributes to making effective decisions during crowd movement operations.
The CST employs technologies such as drones and the Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor crowd movement and direct vehicles, enhancing the efficiency of transportation within the holy sites.
It conducts a comprehensive survey of the frequencies used by government agencies in Makkah and the holy sites to ensure there are no interferences affecting the quality of service. Additionally, specialized technical teams are available around the clock to monitor network performance and address any issues that may arise during the Hajj season.
Finally, the CST provides instant communication systems for different work teams, ensuring effective coordination and rapid response in crowd management.
In March, Saudi CST announced the successful implementation of its operational plan for the Umrah season during Ramadan 1446 AH. This achievement is attributed to the steadfast support and joint efforts of both the government and private sectors, united in their commitment to improving the experience for worshipers.
