Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) has announced the successful implementation of its operational plan for the Umrah season during Ramadan 1446 AH.

The achievement is credited to the unwavering support and collaborative efforts of both government and private sectors, all committed to enhancing the experience for worshipers.

According to a press release by the CST, the performance indicators of communication networks in Makkah and Madinah during the period from 1 to 27 Ramadan revealed that mobile internet speed was 196 Mbps in Makkah, a 10 percent increase from last year’s speed for the same period, while in Madinah, the speed exceeded 272 Mbps, a 26 percent increase from last year.

The daily per capita data consumption was 1,155 MB in Makkah, more than three times the global average, while the per capita consumption in Madinah was 1,481 MB, exceeding four times the global average.

The indicators also showed that the number of calls in Makkah exceeded 355 million local calls and 43 million international voice calls. Meanwhile, local calls in Madinah surpassed 205 million and international voice calls reached 20 million.

According to the reports, the operational strategy included advanced technological solutions to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of worshipers, improve communication networks, and ensure the availability of essential services. This year, the CST deployed cutting-edge tools to streamline operations at key pilgrimage sites, offering real-time information and enhancing the overall pilgrimage experience.

Furthermore, special measures were put in place to guarantee the safety and comfort of pilgrims, including increased capacity for communication services, improved crowd control, and enhanced cybersecurity to safeguard data.
