Globally recognised plastic surgeon Dr. Vardan Khachatrian, known for complex and revision procedures, joins Valiant Clinic and Hospital as Head of Plastic Surgery, fuelling a shift toward precision-driven, safety-first aesthetic care.
Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a global healthcare hub, attracting top-tier specialists across disciplines. The appointment of Dr. Vardan Khachatrian as Head of Plastic Surgery at Valiant Clinic and Hospital reflects a broader transition toward precision-driven, patient-focused aesthetic medicine.
With more than two decades of international surgical experience, Dr. Khachatrian, DHA-licensed, ASAPS Member, is widely recognised for handling complex and revision procedures. His work, shaped by extensive global training and a strong foundation in reconstructive surgery, places him among a select group of specialists focused on long-term outcomes rather than volume-driven practice.
In this exclusive interaction, he outlines the evolution of modern aesthetic surgery, the rising demand for corrective procedures, and Dubai’s growing global relevance in advanced healthcare.
Q: Your expertise and training background?
I completed my MBBS in 2004, and in 2009, an internship and residency at the Department of Surgery, Urology, Traumatology, and Orthopaedics. My clinical journey began in the most demanding environment of emergency and purulent surgery, and trauma care. By 23, I was already handling cases that many surgeons twice my age avoided. I learned how different tissues respond under stress and how the body fights to repair itself. How scars form-and, critically, how they can be prevented. In 2010, I simultaneously pursued Postgraduate Doctoral Studies and several advanced trainings with leading global surgeons across the USA, France, and Italy, where I was exposed to rigorously structured, technique-driven surgical approaches.
Since then, I have worked across different international settings and performed more than 9000 cosmetic procedures. My core focus has gradually moved toward complex and revision cases, where outcomes depend heavily on precision, planning, and experience.
Following my MD, I have remained actively engaged in continuous learning, attending over 20 international conferences and completing 60 advanced certifications. Active participation in international research, ongoing training, hands-on refinement, and exposure to global surgical standards have been central to building my practice.
Q: What shaped your philosophy?
My perspective was shaped early in life. As a child, I experienced a severe accident that required multiple surgeries and long rehabilitation. That experience showed me how critical precision is, not only in restoring function, but in preserving quality of life.
It influenced how I approach surgery today. The objective is refinement, to heal in a way that leaves minimal visible trace. That principle continues to guide my work.

Q: What does this role mean?
This role reflects direction more than designation. Valiant Clinic has a clear vision of combining advanced medical infrastructure with individualised care, and that alignment is important.
My focus has always been on precision, particularly in complex and corrective procedures. Joining a system that prioritises structured protocols, patient safety, and long-term outcomes allows that approach to operate at a higher level.
Dubai is also emerging as a serious global destination for medical travel. This creates an environment where high-difficulty cases can be managed with consistency and control.
Q: Why are revisions rising?
The increase is directly linked to the global expansion of aesthetic procedures. As volume grows, complications and unsatisfactory outcomes follow.
More than 50 percent of my patients come specifically for revision surgery, which reflects a growing gap between initial procedures and long-term outcomes globally. These cases involve scar tissue, altered anatomy, and tissue memory, making them significantly more complex.
The challenge is to restore structural balance in a way that remains stable over time. That is where experience becomes critical.
Q: What is Ultra-Thin Seam?
It is not a single technique, but a structured system. It combines controlled tissue handling, multi-layer stabilisation, and precise tension distribution.
When internal support is correct, surface healing becomes more predictable. This allows faster recovery, often within 48 hours, with reduced pain and minimal reliance on compression or dressings.
The objective is refined, natural-looking outcomes with minimal visible scarring and long-term stability.
Q: What defines natural results?
Often misunderstood, natural results mean proportionate and biologically aligned outcomes, not minimal change. Patients today are more informed and selective. They no longer seek transformation, but enhancement that preserves identity.
From a surgical perspective, the goal is to maintain anatomical harmony while improving structure.
Q: Who are your patients globally?
Patients travel from Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia. The common factor is not geography, but expectation.
They are looking for predictable, long-term results, particularly in complex or corrective cases. That level of expectation requires structured planning and consistency in execution.
Q: Dubai’s global position today?
Dubai has evolved into a globally competitive healthcare destination. This is driven by three key factors: strong regulatory frameworks, advanced infrastructure, and the ability to attract international expertise.
Patients are choosing Dubai for reliability and quality. The expectation now is to deliver outcomes that match global standards.
Q: How is safety evolving?
The industry is moving toward safety-first protocols, especially in complex and body contouring procedures.
This includes staged surgical planning, controlled operating environments, and strict patient selection criteria. Not every patient is suitable for immediate surgery, and that needs to be clearly addressed.
The focus is shifting from performing more procedures to performing the right procedures under the right conditions and timeline.
Q: Role of continuous learning?
It remains essential. Aesthetic surgery evolves continuously, both technically and in terms of patient expectations.
Exposure to different surgical environments across regions helps refine judgment, particularly in complex cases. Experience alone is not sufficient; it must be consistently updated.
Q: Biggest patient misconception?
Many patients focus only on the visible result, not the process behind it.
They often underestimate the importance of planning and recovery dynamics. A successful outcome largely depends on how the body responds over time.
This is why consultation is critical, to align expectations with what is medically appropriate.
Q: Future of aesthetic surgery?
The shift is already underway – from volume-based procedures to precision-driven, patient-specific approaches.
Technology will support this transition, but the core change is philosophical, less trauma where possible, more control where required, and alignment with biological principles.
The focus is not on doing more, but on doing better.
Q: Your focus at Valiant Clinic?
Three areas: complex procedures, international patient care, and protocol-driven practice.
Each case requires structured planning, controlled execution, and long-term follow-up. When this is done correctly, it improves outcomes and builds trust. In medicine, trust is fundamental.

Q: Are you seen as a celebrity surgeon due to 2M+ followers?
That is true, I do have around 2 million followers on Instagram. However, I see social media visibility as a byproduct of the work, not its foundation. For that reason, I do not consider myself a celebrity.
What matters far more is clinical responsibility, patient trust, and the ability to deliver consistent, long-term outcomes. While followers can influence perception, credibility in medicine is ultimately defined by results, ethical practice, and sustained patient satisfaction.
Editorial Insight
The appointment of Dr. Vardan Khachatrian at Valiant Clinic signals a clear inflection point in Dubai’s aesthetic, cosmetic, and plastic surgery sector. As global demand for aesthetic procedures continues to rise, the industry is steadily shifting toward outcome-driven care, led by world-class specialists and advanced clinical ecosystems.
This trend reinforces Dubai’s ambition to position itself as a leading force in advanced aesthetic medicine across Asia and beyond. If this growth continues to be anchored in credibility, authenticity, and patient trust, the city is likely to see a sustained influx of international patients, including high-profile individuals seeking reliable, high-quality outcomes.
In effect, this evolution is not just shaping the medical sector; it is strengthening Dubai’s global brand as a destination for excellence in modern, patient-centric healthcare.
