Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has partnered with the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) to advance renewable energy infrastructure, with a focus on solar power projects aimed at improving sustainability and operational efficiency.

The agreement was formalized in a signing ceremony attended by top officials from both organizations, including Yusuf Osama Buheji, Board Member and Acting CEO of REHC, and Ali Al Nemah, Vice President for Electricity Affairs at EWA. The collaboration underscores Bahrain’s commitment to renewable energy and aligns with broader national development goals.

HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Court and Chairman of REHC’s High Committee, emphasized the critical role of modern technologies in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the horseracing sector.

The minister noted that the initiatives position REHC as a leading hub for sports and tourism, both regionally and internationally, supporting the Kingdom’s vision under His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Discussions centered on boosting REHC-EWA cooperation in renewable energy, focusing on the club’s solar project. HH Shaikh Isa noted the power purchase agreement underscores ongoing efforts to cut carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.

Yusuf Osama Buheji, Board Member and Acting CEO of REHC, stated that the solar project’s expected annual output will exceed REHC’s energy consumption, demonstrating the initiative’s alignment with international best practices in sustainable energy. He added that the project not only promotes energy efficiency but also reinforces Bahrain’s presence on the global horseracing stage.
