Qatar and India have reaffirmed their strategic energy partnership and called for urgent measures to protect global supply chains as regional geopolitical tensions continue to disrupt international energy markets.
The commitment came during high-level talks in Doha between Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, and India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, held during Puri’s official two-day visit to Qatar.
The meeting focused on the widening impact of the ongoing regional conflict on the global oil and gas industry, particularly the risks posed to energy transportation routes and supply stability.
Both ministers reviewed the implications of recent disruptions in West Asia, a region central to global hydrocarbon exports, and stressed the importance of coordinated international efforts to safeguard uninterrupted energy flows.
Al Kaabi reiterated Qatar’s position as a dependable long-term energy partner, assuring India that the Gulf nation remains committed to fulfilling its obligations as a reliable supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other energy resources.
Qatar is one of India’s largest energy partners and a critical source of LNG and LPG imports, making bilateral energy stability especially significant for New Delhi’s energy security strategy.
The two sides jointly underlined the urgent need to end disruptions affecting fuel shipments and stressed that a swift return to normal market conditions is essential for global economic resilience.
A major point of convergence in the talks was the importance of ensuring unimpeded freedom of navigation through vital maritime trade corridors, particularly in and around the Gulf region.
The ministers noted that uninterrupted maritime commerce is indispensable for protecting global supply chains, preventing price shocks, and maintaining confidence in international energy markets.
The discussions also reinforced the broader India-Qatar strategic partnership, with both nations expressing interest in expanding long-term cooperation in energy trade, investment, and infrastructure collaboration.
