MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga is the new International Chamber of Commerce Chair

Maria Fernanda Garza has been elected to be the First Vice Chair making her the first woman to hold this position.

The MasterCard CEO, Ajay Banga has been elected to take over the position of Chair at ICC succeeding Paul Polman with immediate effect. He has been serving the position of First Vice-Chair in the Chamber since 2018.

International Chamber of Commerce is an institutional representation of over 45 million companies and Mr. Banga has been holding the position of First Vice-Chair in the institution since 2018. The ICC World Council elections are held annually.

In this challenging time, I intend to build on the work underway at ICC and to ensure that the organization, on behalf of business globally, continues to lead in promoting greater prosperity and opportunity for all, which includes being a crucial voice in the re-building of a sustainable and inclusive global economy.”

Maria Fernanda Garza has been elected to be the First Vice Chair making her the first woman to hold this position. She is the CEO of Orestia and has been a member of the Chamber since 2014.

Ajay Banga has earlier served as the CEO of Citigroup Asia Pacific and as a member of Barack Obama’s Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity. He is a past member of Mr. Obama’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. He is currently a member of the board of overseers of the Weill Cornell Medical College, and a director of Dow Inc. as well as a member of its compensation and governance committees.

The seven newly elected members of the executive board hail from various geographic and ethnic backgrounds. They are Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammad Al-Thani from Qatar, Sebastian Escarrer from Spain, Dario Gallina from Italy, Shinta Kamdani from Indonesia, Valentina Mintah from Ghana, Takeshi Niinami from Japan and Jane Sun from China.
